Abbe Rous, Chardonnay, Roussillon, France, 2020Regular price £13.50
Chardonnay is not a grape variety one would associate with the Roussillon, but here is an example of a beautifully made wine (by an estate with a lot of investment). Very Chardonnay. Good tropical fruits on the nose and palate with freshness, minerality, and a generous mouthfeel are all giveaways. This certain example has a lovely salinity, perhaps owed to it's proximity to the sea! Perfect as a quaffable go-to for those who like a fuller wine, and great with seafood, fish, poultry or exotic dishes.
Sourced from the Vallée de la Têt, to the west of Perpignan. Planted on deep, rocky soils, these 20 year old vines are trellised and yield around 45hl/ha. Harvested at night in late August, the wine is vinified in around 85% stainless steel and 15% older wood.
