The Aussies don't have a reputation for subtlety. Which is wrong! Or at least, it is changing... This cracking value Shiraz, whilst rich and unctuous has a lightness of touch about it. It's not stewed and hot - quite the opposite. Beautiful red fruit character of strawberries and redcurrants shine, backed up nicely with the familiar warm scent of vanilla from a touch of very well managed soft, toasty oak. The palate is round, luscious and powerful with a subtle but marked spice character. Very delicious and rather moreish. And at this great price point, you should always make sure to have more than one on hand!
Built in 1845 and set among the gently undulating hills of Eden Valley, Corryton Park Homestead is the gathering point for family celebrations; its two carved stone griffins – said to protect all that is precious – feature on the wine’s labels. The property captured the heart of their father, Grant, as he rode his horse through the region as a youngster and daydreamed of one day living there. Some years later while courting Helen, he proclaimed that if the opportunity ever arose, he would buy Corryton Park Homestead for her and their future family. Just a few years later the picturesque property had two new and delighted owners, with Grant turning his attention to the small but exceptional parcel of vines and Helen focusing on restoring the estate to its former glory.
