This is just a stunning example of Greece's flagship red grape, produced by one of Greece's flagship producers. This wine from Naoussa in the north of Greece, is a delicious enigma. The grape, Xinomavro, is often referred to as the Nebbiolo of Greece as a result of it's lightish colour, chunky tannins & racy acidity. All of those structural components ring true here, and the wine is full of fresh cherry, rhubarb, salty black olive, tomato leaf and a touch of earth.
Excellent for drinking now and will last a good few years in bottle if you are patient enough!
Kostis Dalamara is a sixth-generation winemaker in Naoussa, a historic region in Macedonia associated with aromatic, ageworthy Xinomavro. After spending time at Domaines Trapet, Giboulot, and Clos du Rouge Gorge – producers known for their traditional farming and winemaking methods – Kostis introduced organics, spontaneous fermentations, and reduced sulphur dioxide levels when taking over his family’s estate in 2010.
