Domaine de Galouchey are different. Nestled in the Entre-deux-Mers appellation on 'the wrong side of the Dordogne' but preferring to label their wine as plain old Vin de France. Their less-than-1 hectare vineyard is planted with all of Bordeaux's permitted grape varieties - Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, Carmenere, Petit Verdot, Semillon, Sauvignon Blanc, Sauvignon Gris and Muscadelle - all of which find their way into this blend. The ‘Vin de Jardin’ has developed a cult following among drinkers weary of Bordeaux’s more extracted commercial style. They too, throw two fingers up at the establishment...
The name ‘Vin de Jardin’ is a response to the ‘Vin de Garage’ wines of the 1990s, which relied on late picking and and heavy extraction to gain favour with Mr R Parker. Also, their vineyard site is so small it resembles more of a garden, anyway!
The wine is rich, weighty and with a silky texture, but with incredible freshness and drinkability. It's very different to the unexciting, 'identikit' Clarets that we struggle to get on board with. This is exceptional.
