This Moschomavro shows gorgeous aromas of fresh and candied raspberries, cherries, violets and crushed stones. Medium-bodied, smooth and easy drinking, this is a great option for those who are tired of heavy reds. Moschomavro is an extremely rare indigenous grape which became almost extinct by the 1970s. Diamantis winery take credit for reviving this grape, which today is named amongst the most exciting emerging varieties in Greece.
The grapes come from high altitude vineyards, planted on rocky limestone soils, in the region of Siatista in north-western Macedonia. Winemaking approach is natural: spontaneous fermentation, no fining or filtering. The result is a beautiful expression of Moschomavro, made in a fruit-driven style. Serve Diamantis Moschomavro slightly chilled. Enjoy it on its own or pair with lean meat, pastas, mushroom and vegetable dishes.
Press Review:
"I found the lightly coloured red to be charmingly fragrant with aromas and flavours of tangy red fruits and a quality that I can only describe as ‘dusty’ but in a good way, like crushed stones. It’s beautifully balanced between the lightish tannins, fresh acidity and lively fruit. It carries its 13.5% alcohol effortlessly and the flavour lingers to a long, mouth-watering finish. You could drink it on its own as an appetite-whetter but it also has the substance to go with food even if it seems relatively light on first acquaintance. The second time I tasted it, I described it as rather like red Chablis, utterly captivating." - Julia Harding MW
