Rhône Raiders vs Cade Crusaders // Saffa Sessions #2 // Wednesday 17th January 2024 // Vino Gusto Tasting Room
- In stock, ready to ship
Welcome to the Saffa Sessions, hosted by our very own Cape Crusader, John Khayser. Many regular of Vino Towers will know that we have a bit of a bias towards the wines of the Western Cape. The value is often stonkingly good, and they produce outstanding modern, new wave wines, as well as some true classics modelled on old world icons. On top of that, we have a bonafide Saffa amongst our team of wine weirdos with an undying spirit towards the wines of his motherland, so who better to take you on a vinous journey through the Cape of Good Hope, than our very own John Khayser.
In our second instalment of this series, John will host this ultimate thrown down between two of our favourite wine regions and styles. In the classic corner, we'll be tasting through traditional wine styles of the Rhône Valley, France. Expect peppery Syrah, wild Viognier and juicy Grenache. In the other corner, we'll have wines of South Africa, all made with the classic Rhône varietals that thrive in the Cape. Think floral Cinsault, smoky Syrah and honeyed Grenache Blanc. Naturally, John will have a bias in one direction, but do the gnarly old vines of the Swartland compete with the savoury, restrained and mineral wines of the Rhône? We're excited to find out...
This will be fun and educational. Suitable for all levels of drinking experience. There will be a few nibbles to enjoy along side the wines - we promise a good time and great wine.

Please confirm when booking if you have any allergies or dietary requirements. We'll do our best to accommodate.
No physical ticket required, just bring a copy of your order confirmation (on a phone is fine).
Please note that we kindly ask attendees not to wear strong aftershave or perfume for the event. This sounds like a silly request, but we try and keep our tasting room as a controlled environment so that only the wine fumes invade our nostrils.
Tickets are non-refundable.
We adore our wonky old building. All we regret is that the staircase to our first floor tasting room isn't overly forgiving and as such rules us out from being accessible. So sorry for the inconvenience it may cause.
