Telmo Rodriguez 'Gaba' Mencia 2020

The Telmo Rodríguez Gaba Mencía is a wonderful expression of the indigenous Mencía grape that performs so well in the Valdeorras wine region of northwest Spain. This is a wine that is always fresh and expressive, its selected grapes come from the most eastern municipalities of the DO such as Santa Cruz, Las Ermitas and above all Larouco.

Telmo Rodríguez, of Remelluri fame, is one of Spains' greatest winemakers. He made a name for himself when he started his own wine business in the 1990s with fellow winemaker Pablo Eguzkiza. Together their vision for Compañia de Vinos was to soley work with native grape varieties and revive forgotten or abandoned vineyards in various regions throughout Spain. With Spain only slowly starting to recognise and explore the beauty in its indigenous grape varieties, Telmo and his dedicated team have long been ahead of their game. They closely work with local growers creating unique wines with a genuine sense of place. The journey thus far has seen them take on board some 355 little plots across 80 hectares in total, working with 43 different varieties of native grapes.
