A fortified wine made from a blend of classic Portuguese grape varieties.
This Cape Late Bottled Vintage ‘Port’ was aged for an unprecedented eight years in cask on the farm. Rick happened on the barrels on his annual catch-up with his old friend Rijk in March 2020. Freshened-up with a few litres of the 2018 Vintage, it was bottled that June.
A typically British initiative, the tradition of ‘passing the Port’ dates back centuries and comes with its own particular etiquette. It dictates that once a diner has poured a glass for his neighbour on the right, the decanter should be passed immediately to the left, with the vessel not halting from its clockwise progression around the table until such time as the decanter is emptied.
If someone is seen to be failing in their duties, the breach is brought to their attention by enquiring, ‘Do you know the Bishop of Norwich?’ For those who know the true meaning of this euphemism, it serves as a timely reminder, while for those who don’t, they are politely informed ‘He’s a terribly good chap, but he always forgets to pass the Port…’

You will receive an automated confirmation on ordering. It is unavoidable that wines will sometimes be out of stock, so we will always contact you to advise a delivery estimate in this case. If you need the wine for a particular date, or before a particular date please make sure you specify this. Delivery is then the following working day. So if you order before 12pm and we have the stock available, you should receive your wine the following working day, as stated above.
Deliveries are normally made weekdays before 4pm. Unsuccessful deliveries will be attempted the next working day if nobody is available to accept the delivery, unless you specify a place to leave the shipment in this case. If a request is made for wine to be left unattended, Vino Gusto will not be held responsible if the wine goes missing after the courier has delivered it. If a delivery has not arrived in the timeframe, please let us know. Although the courier should tell us if there are any breakages, please let us know of any damage within 24 hours of receipt, so we can investigate.
Please also be sure to check the number of cases for which you are signing; we cannot replace wine that has been signed for but not received.
Please note that we, regretfully, are currently unable to ship to Northern Ireland.
