WSET Level 1 Award in Wines // Saturday 2nd July 2022
- In stock, ready to ship
The WSET level 1 is a beginner level introduction to wine suitable for those starting a wine career or pursuing a keen interest in wine. If you wish to register your interest for Level 2 and Level 3 courses, please send us an email.
We're so pleased to host this course, offered by Master of Wine, Nick Adams. We have worked with Nick for many years and consider him the very best (Jake may even say, a mentor). He has a knack for teaching through fun anecdotes and always massively overdelivers on the course specification. As a Master of Wine, there aren't many educators (and we mean globally...) that will have the depth of knowledge and decades of experience in the wine trade as Nick has. Whilst this is an entry level course, no query is too deep and no tangent is too distracting. This is a brilliant opportunity for any enthusiast to spend the day with a master and learn a great deal whilst having some fun. Lunch will be provided, as well as the opportunity to taste outstanding wines throughout the day.
For individuals new to wine study, this qualification provides a hands-on introduction to the world of wine. You’ll explore the main types and styles of wine through sight, smell, and taste, while also gaining the basic skills to describe wines accurately, and make food and wine pairings. Upon successful completion you will receive a WSET certificate and lapel pin.
What you'll learn
- The main types and styles of wine
- Common wine grapes and their characteristics
- How to store and serve wine
- The principles of food and wine pairing
- How to describe wine using the WSET Level 1 Systematic Approach to Tasting Wine® (SAT)
Assessment
Assessment is by a closed-book exam of 30 multiple-choice questions. It's not as scary as it sounds!
This qualification is regulated by Ofqual.
There are no entry requirements for this qualification.

Please confirm when booking if you have any allergies or dietary requirements.
No physical ticket required, just bring a copy of your order confirmation (on a phone is fine).
Please note that we kindly ask attendees not to wear strong aftershave or perfume for the event. This sounds like a silly request, but we try and keep our tasting room as a controlled environment so that only the wine fumes invade our nostrils.
Cancellations require a week's notice period otherwise you will be charged, unless we can resell your ticket ahead of the course.
We adore our wonky old building. All we regret is that the staircase to our first floor tasting room isn't overly forgiving and as such rules us out from being accessible. So sorry for the inconvenience it may cause.
