Jancis Robinson MW described this wine as having 'faint hints of Ch Rayas'... Who are we to argue?! Though unlike Rayas, this wont cost you a mortgage and is very picnic friendly. Chill this down on a hot day and it's eminently gluggable. Soft and seductive, with raspberry, violets and plum on the nose, with lovely hints dried herbs. The palate is super light and juicy, bursting with fruits carried by a lively acidic spine. It has structure, making it food friendly, but this is equally quaffable after 20 minutes in the fridge.
According to winemaker Corlea Fourie, Chasing Rabbits captures the fine tension and clarity of young Grenache fruit. The grapes come from a certified organic vineyard called Gesamelike Wei, which means communal pasture – the site was originally used for grazing by nomadic trek farmers. The current vineyard was established in 2016, with bush vines planted on decomposed granite soils. The fruit is hand harvested and destemmed to stainless-steel, where fermentation takes place with natural yeasts. After three days on skins the wine is gently pressed and aged in neutral vessels until bottling.
