You could think of Assyrtiko as Greece's answer to Chablis. Not only stylistically, but also in the way that the good stuff now commands a hefty price tag. But Cavino's Godessa Assyrtiko is a brilliant little introduction to what we love about modern Greek whites. Lively, citrusy and refreshing with white flowers, a faint herbal note and a touch of salinity. This slips down very easily on a summers afternoon, or works nicely as an accompaniment to summer salads or light fish dishes.

Cavino is a family owned winery, founded in 1958 and located on the slopes of Aigialia in Peloponnese, amid charming vineyards with local grape varieties. The location is a combination of mountains and the sea, creating a unique climate that gives local grapes their exceptional quality.
