Caves de Juliénas-Chaintré

Caves de Juliénas-Chaintré occupies a fascinating position at the meeting point of Beaujolais and southern Burgundy. It was formed in 2013 through the union of two historic cooperatives located just six kilometres apart: Chaintré, founded in 1928, and Juliénas, established in 1961.

Together, around 90 growers farm approximately 290 hectares across the rolling slopes of the Beaujolais and Mâconnais. The two cellars retain their own winemaking facilities and regional identities, while sharing knowledge, resources and routes to market. This makes the cooperative a rare bridge between two neighbouring regions that are usually treated as entirely separate worlds.

The headquarters are housed at the Château du Bois de la Salle in Juliénas, a former sixteenth-century priory surrounded by vines. The cooperative is now an important custodian of the local landscape, particularly in Juliénas, where its members account for a significant proportion of the appellation. It is a practical alliance built upon solidarity, shared expertise and a determination to keep smaller growers farming their own land.
