Domaine Hippolyte Reverdy is based in Verdigny, one of Sancerre’s historic winegrowing villages, perched among the rolling hills northwest of the town itself. The Reverdy family has lived and farmed here since the sixteenth century, with the present domaine established by Hippolyte and subsequently developed by his son Michel.

The estate covers 14 hectares spread across Verdigny’s two principal terroirs. The pale terres blanches combine Kimmeridgian limestone and clay, while the stonier caillottes are shallow, free-draining and rich in limestone. Rather than isolating individual parcels, the domaine traditionally brings these complementary sites together to express a broader picture of Verdigny.

Work in the vineyards remains measured and practical, with soils cultivated mechanically, yields carefully controlled and treatments kept to the minimum required. Michel has overseen everything from vineyard to bottle for many years, but his niece Julie is now taking the reins. It is a small, understated domaine with centuries of local knowledge behind it and none of the gloss that increasingly surrounds the name Sancerre.
