Plush and silky. Lots of oomph here, but modern and fresh in style. Tannat's (60%) classic blackcurrant and spice lead the charge, but Cabernet Franc (40%) lends overtones of blueberries and violets. The palate is creamy and full with lots of dark, juicy fruit flavours. Fire up the grill, char some lamb chops and serve family style with roasted veg. This should be the perfect lubrication to a wonderfully long summer evening.
Madiran is a glorious hidden corner of south west France with lush, rolling hillsides and glimpses of the snow peaked high Pyrenees around every corner. Just an hour south of Bordeaux, this is a playground of delicious regional cuisine to pair with the special local wines.
Château Peyros has been owned by the Lesgourgues family since 1999 and there has been significant investment in the vineyards and the cellar. There are seventeen hectares of vines, mainly planted with Tannat, together with some Cabernet Franc. The soils are silty clay and full of large stones deposited by mountain glaciers (Peyros means stony in Gascon). Sustainable practices are a priority and both Haute Valeur Environnementale level 3 and Terra Vitis certifications have been achieved.
