Domaine Vuillemez Père et Fils Macon-Villages 2022

Classy and classic Macon-Villages. Very floral and aromatic with notes of ripe stone fruits and hazelnuts. The palate is clear, pure and fresh with a lovely coating texture. This is textbook Chardonnay, from the village of Chardonnay!

Claude Vuillemez had an exciting career in his native Switzerland as a watchmaker with Cartier. He had always loved the wines of Burgundy and in 1989 he bought an old house in the village of Chardonnay, with his wife Patricia. In 2007 a vigneron retired in the village without succession and Claude took over his hectare of vines to achieve his dream of making ‘Chardonnay in Chardonnay’. In 2012 a further nine hectares were acquired, including four hectares of old abandoned vines that had returned naturally to forest after 60 years of neglect. Then in 2018, Claude’s son and nephew, Paul and Valentin, joined the domaine full time.  The family have recently completed renovations on their impressive winery which has brought life back to old buildings in the heart of the village opposite the medieval church.

There is great precision with everything at Domaine Vuillemez as one would expect from a Swiss watchmaker... The Mâcon Villages is pure and fresh with a lovely balance. The vines are situated around the villages of Lugny and Uchizy and are aged entirely in stainless steel.
