Fedellos do Couto 'Conasbrancas' 2022

A quirky, Atlantic white that feels like it's been battered by the wind. Cool stone fruit flavours collide with a smoky, spicy and savoury nose. In the glass the wine becomes bigger and more impressive with a bit of time and aromas of beeswax and jasmine develop. Saline and zippy on the palate which makes the wine feel easygoing, but it's not without a powerful, mineral core. Somewhere between funky and wild, this is distinctive and delicious.

Conasbrancas is a field blend of local varieties from the same vineyards in the Bibei valley that produce the red Lomba dos Ares. Red and white grapes grow together on this hillside, and the Fedellos spent several years rejuvenating the whites to ensure enough production for this blend. The vineyards are located on terraces along the steep slopes of the rivers Sil and Bibei at between 700 and 750 metres above sea level. Soils consist of decomposed granite, schist and sand. The climate is continental, although proximity to the Atlantic Ocean makes this area more humid and rainy than most of Spain, with around 800 mm each year.

The vines are between 60 to 80 years old. Viticulture is organic and the vines are untrained and worked manually.
