Gunderloch 'Als Wars Ein Stuck Von Mir' Riesling 2020

Dry, spicy and spine-tingling fresh, it refreshes with steely lime, lemon sorbet, tart green apple, spiced gingerbread biscuits, pepper, cream and smoke nuances.

Als Wär’s Ein Stück Von Mir translates roughly as “a piece of me”. This proud, romantic and deeply personal Riesling was the first wine created by Johannes on taking over the family winery from his parents Agnes (née Gunderloch) and Fritz Hasselbach. So, as you can imagine, this is a wine close to Johannes Hasselbach’s heart.

For this cuvee he chose to turn back the clock to the time his grandparents were making wine: no additions, no fining and no temperature controls, just long, slow ferments with natural yeasts. The resulting wine is intensely aromatic with a taught line of textural acidity running from beginning to end.
