Bricco delle Viole means “vineyards of the violet”. It is one of most famous Barolo crus with 60 year-old vines giving a delicate and aromatic fruit character, full of cherries, dark berries, violets and dried roses.
The G.D. Vajra winery lies in the highest town of Barolo, in Piedmont. Named after its founder in 1972, Giuseppe Domenico Vajra knew how to make the best of his family vineyards when there was the Barolo boom. Currently the winery is run by his son Aldo. A family project with 40 hectares of vineyards that guarantee excellent quality grapes and unrivalled wines.
The grapes used to make the G.D. Vajra Barolo Bricco delle Viole wine come from Vajra’s oldest vineyards. These vines are planted in clay and calcareous soil, at 400-480 metres above sea level and with a stable and temperate climate. Sustainable agriculture is practiced and the harvest is carried out manually when the grapes are very ripe.
In the winery, the G.D. Vajra Barolo Bricco delle Viole grapes are firstly gently selected and squeezed. They then macerate with skins and ferment with skins for 30-40 days. Finally, the wine ages for 42-48 months in large Slavic oak barrels and then in the bottle.
