The under appreciated and undervalued Saint-Romain appellation is a Burgundy drinkers paradise. Not far from Meursault, here the wines are rich, unctuous and satisfyingly well priced (in a Burgundian context). Plenty of citrus with notes of blossom, jasmine and mineral accents. Very refined and classy indeed. Absolutely ideal with delicate, pan fried fish dishes or a creamy, soft cheese.
Pale gold with green highlights. The nose reveals lime blossom, white flowers, and subtle mineral accents. On the palate, lively minerality evolves into a me low roundness over time. Ideal with delicate fish—pan-fried or steamed—and pairs beautifu ly with omelettes, poached eggs, or lightly marinated vegetables. Soft cheeses like Camembert are also complemented by the wine's refined mineral acidity
Saint Romain is perhaps the most beautiful spot in the Côte de Beaune and the wines have become more sought after in recent years. Situated a few kilometres west of Meursault in an elevated and protected position, it has benefitted from rising temperatures and now makes impressive wines with greater concentration than in the past. The appellation was created in 1947 and has just 98 hectares under vine with the majority being white. Domaine Germain was created in 1955 and has 10ha in Saint Romain as well as a little Pommard and Beaune.
