This hearty red is a blend of Grenache Noir 60%; Mourvedre 30%; Syrah 10%. This is all about the fruit. Think redcurrant, strawberry and plumb with just a kiss of toasty oak flavour. It's a big wine, no doubt, but there's lovely acidity, providing freshness and drinkability. We love it decanted and slightly chilled, but that's us getting too fancy. Open the bottle and enjoy how you like. A winner with a simple steak.
Produced with grapes harvested from 40 - 60 year old bush vines growing on Schist soils. Grapes were destemmed and fermented in stainless steel tanks. Twice daily pumping over during fermentation then a further 10 days maceration at the end of fermentation. Half of the Grenache Noir was aged in puncheon barrels for 12 months, with malolactic fermentation facilitated. The rest of the wine was aged in stainless steel.
Winemaker and owner of Res Fortes, Moritz Bak, found his love of wine at a young age, visiting his Grandfather (a keen consumer, we are told) in the south of France. Having then travelled extensively and worked as a winemaker at some pretty famous addresses, Moritz settled on Roussillon to begin his own winemaking venture in 2014 making modern, elegant wines from the toughest terrain.
