Sophie Schaal Dry Riesling 2024

In Sophie's own words, "I like to pour this as a “welcome drink” for my friends. It is a palate pleaser for the aperitif but also the best companion to start a dinner." I'll look forward to my invite! Indeed this is bright and effortlessly drinkable. With a classic Riesling zing and layers of orange blossom and fresh lime zest intertwined with delicate hints of wet stone and peach, this is very inviting. The palate is crisp and zesty with flavours of green apple and slate (you have licked slate... right?!) riding on top of Rieslings natural acidity. A mouthwatering aperitif on a summers day, or a brilliant accompaniment to shellfish slathered in garlic butter. 

Sophie Schaal is a Burgundy native, making truly outstanding wines in Alsace and South Africa, alongside her husband Julien Schaal. Certified organic, her approach in both vineyard and cellar is very much hands-off to highlight fruit, site and season. Across the board, her wines are pure, characterful expressions of Alsace. Nestled at the foothills of the Vosges Mountains, this region is a true paradise for winemaking, with its diverse soils and deep-rooted traditions. Sophie's ambition is for each vineyard to express its unique character. The rich mosaic of granite, limestone, and schist soils imparts distinctive qualities to the wines, be it the vibrancy of Riesling or the exotic, spicy depth of Gewurztraminer.
