This is the best Verdejo from Rueda we have tasted. It has all the hallmarks of the grape variety: lemon, fennel, stone fruit and almond. But thanks to a little time in old oak, the concentration from prized old vines, and a few months of lees aging, this wine has texture and weight like we have never experienced from Verdejo.

About The Producer
Founded in 1935, Bodegas Cuatro Rayas is one of Spain's most important white wine producers and has played a huge role in establishing Rueda as the country's home of world-class Verdejo. Today, the cooperative represents more than 300 growers farming over 2,000 hectares of vineyards, including some of the oldest Verdejo vines in existence. While they're best known for their fresh, everyday whites, the Viñedos Centenarios range is something rather special—a small-production wine crafted from ancient vineyards as a tribute to the winery's history and a showcase for just how serious Verdejo can be.
Winemaking Information
This wine is produced from a tiny selection of centenary, bush-trained Verdejo vines, many of them pre-phylloxera, planted on the sandy soils of Rueda. After a 24-hour cold maceration, the grapes are gently pressed and fermented at a cool 15°C in stainless steel over three weeks. The wine then spends at least four months on its fine lees with regular bâtonnage, building texture and complexity while preserving the freshness that makes old-vine Verdejo so captivating.
