About The Producer
Funkstille works with a sixteenth-generation winegrowing family in Niederösterreich to make characterful, modern Austrian wines. Their sustainably certified Weinviertel vineyards grow on loess, clay and granite, with cover crops and straw mulch supporting soil health and water retention. In the cellar, solar and biogas power support a thoughtful, energy-neutral approach to winemaking.
Winemaking Information
100% Zweigelt from south-facing Niederösterreich vineyards. Following five days of cold soaking, fermentation includes regular pump-overs and further skin contact. Malolactic fermentation occurs alongside alcoholic fermentation. The wine ages for around five months in older, large-format wooden barrels, with 10% in previously used barriques. No new oak.
