Expect generous flavours of blackberry, plum and black cherry, layered with smoky spice, dark chocolate, gentle leather and a hint of vanilla from its time in oak. About The Producer
Lanzerac occupies a unique place in South African wine history. Situated in the Jonkershoek Valley on the outskirts of Stellenbosch, the estate dates back to 1692 and became the first winery to commercially bottle Pinotage under its own label with the legendary 1959 vintage. Today, Lanzerac continues to champion South Africa's signature grape, combining generations of experience with modern winemaking to produce elegant, age-worthy wines that showcase the best of Stellenbosch's world-renowned terroir.
Winemaking Information
The fruit is sourced from selected vineyards across Stellenbosch, where decomposed granite soils, warm days and cooling ocean breezes create perfectly balanced Pinotage. After hand harvesting, the grapes undergo temperature-controlled fermentation before maturing for around 15 months in French oak barrels, a portion of which are new. The careful use of oak enhances the wine's texture and complexity while allowing the generous fruit and unmistakable character of Pinotage to remain centre stage.
