About The Producer
Val do Galir was founded in 2002 by the Prada Gayoso family in Galicia's Valdeorras region, an area increasingly recognised for producing some of Spain's most exciting wines. While the estate is particularly renowned for its Godello, the team also works extensively with Mencía from carefully selected hillside vineyards. The region's combination of Atlantic influence, altitude and mineral-rich soils creates wines with freshness, precision and a strong sense of place. Val do Galir has earned a reputation for producing modern, expressive wines that showcase the character of Galicia while remaining approachable and food-friendly.
Winemaking Information
The grapes for this Mencía are sourced from vineyards in Valdeorras, north-west Spain, planted on a mix of slate and granite soils. Fruit is hand-harvested and carefully sorted before fermentation in stainless steel tanks to preserve freshness and purity. Gentle extraction techniques are used throughout fermentation, allowing the variety's vibrant fruit character and floral aromatics to shine while maintaining elegance and balance. A short period of ageing helps integrate the wine without masking its regional identity.
