Why You'll Love It
Xinomavro makes a rosé with rather more personality than your standard pale pink. Fragrant and refreshing, it combines strawberries and juicy stone fruit with floral lift and a subtle herbal edge. The palate is crisp but not thin, gaining a little extra texture from time on its fine lees. Brilliant as an aperitif, but equally happy alongside grilled prawns, Greek salads, mezze or simply seasoned chicken.
About The Producer
Kir-Yianni is one of the producers that helped change the international reputation of Greek wine. Founded in 1997 by Yiannis Boutaris after his departure from the historic Boutari family business, the estate has long championed indigenous varieties, above all Xinomavro. Yiannis' son Stellios Boutaris now leads the business, working across two very different sites on the slopes of Mount Vermio: Naoussa, where structured red Xinomavro excels, and the cooler, high-altitude vineyards of Amyndeon, where it can make remarkably lively rosé. Detailed vineyard mapping, carefully managed viticulture and serious work on sustainability underpin wines that feel both distinctly Greek and entirely contemporary.
Winemaking Information
The grapes are rigorously selected before being pressed directly, preserving Xinomavro’s freshness and delicate colour. Fermentation takes place in temperature-controlled stainless-steel tanks at 17–19°C. The wine then rests on its fine lees for three months, with occasional gentle bâtonnage adding texture and complexity without diminishing its bright, crisp character.
