Why You'll Love It
Decadence like this usually requires a higher price point from the Southern Rhône. Powerful and peppery with an alluring fragrance of black fruits and spice lead to a softer palate of black cherries with a hint of mineral freshness. This is an outstanding match with roast beef and all of the trimmings. If you like big wines, this will be up your street.
About The Producer
Cave de Gigondas was foudned in 1956 by 7 passionate winegrowers. Today that number has increased to 78 across 130 hectares, mostly in Gigondas but now also taking in Vacqueyras and Beaumes de Venise. Here at the foot of the Dentelles the unique microclimate combined with 7 soils types allows the winemakers to craft wines that have complexity and freshness while maintaining hand harvesting and traditional winemaking techniques ensure that quality is always good.
Winemaking Information
The fruit is sourced from hillside vineyards around the village of Gigondas, nestled beneath the dramatic Dentelles de Montmirail. Old Grenache vines planted on limestone, marl and clay soils provide concentration, while Syrah and Mourvèdre contribute structure and spice. Each parcel is vinified separately using traditional Rhône methods before ageing in concrete and stainless steel to preserve freshness and purity of fruit, allowing the character of Gigondas to shine without excessive oak influence.
