Why You'll Love It
Deep, brooding and powerful with plenty of spice and all things nice. The nose is reminiscent of roasting red meats and blackberry compote with a subtle herby note to it. The palate is full, round and energetic with plenty more black fruits and some oaky spice. If you're a fan of wines from nearby village, Châteauneuf-du-Pape, you simply must try this brilliant value alternative. Especially if roasted red meat is likely to be on the menu anytime soon.
About The Producer
Cave de Gigondas was foudned in 1956 by 7 passionate winegrowers. Today that number has increased to 78 across 130 hectares, mostly in Gigondas but now also taking in Vacqueyras and Beaumes de Venise. Here at the foot of the Dentelles the unique microclimate combined with 7 soils types allows the winemakers to craft wines that have complexity and freshness while maintaining hand harvesting and traditional winemaking techniques ensure that quality is always good.
Winemaking Information
The fruit is sourced from vineyards surrounding the Dentelles de Montmirail in the southern Rhône, where old vines grow on a mix of limestone, clay and stony soils. Each variety is vinified separately using traditional methods before the final blend is assembled. Gentle extraction preserves the purity of the fruit while allowing the wine to build plenty of structure and depth. The emphasis is on expressing the distinctive terroir of Vacqueyras rather than masking it with excessive oak, producing a wine that is generous, spicy and wonderfully balanced.
