If you're a fan of rich whites, this creamy stunner is an absolute must try for you. An organic blend of Cataratto, Grillo and Fiano with a very little touch of skin contact and time spent is big Slovenian oak. Flavours of lemon curd, apricot, dried mango and coconut give the impression of richness, but the palate is soft and nuanced with spice and citrus. Everything is in harmony here: texture, freshness and character all define this intense, intriguing, delicious wine. Drinking this makes me feel like I am basking in the mid afternoon sun in a European square with no plans but a bowl of pasta alla norma and sharing this bottle.
About The Producer
Cortese produce wine in the most traditional and natural way to reflect the true character of the estate’s terroir and its grape varieties. Taking tradition as their inspiration, they employ ancient wine-making techniques such as fermentation in terracotta. The resulting wines reflect the combination of modern technology and traditional techniques, with every nuance of the terroir showing through.
Winemaking Information
Vanedda is inspired by ancient Sicilian winemaking traditions. The grapes are hand-harvested into small baskets before being chilled overnight to preserve freshness. After gentle destemming, the fruit spends around two days fermenting on its skins, giving the wine its distinctive golden colour and gentle grip. Fermentation is completed in large oak botti before the wine rests on its lees for at least seven months, followed by a further six months in bottle prior to release. Production is deliberately tiny, with only the very best fruit making the final blend.
