Why You'll Love It
A terrific example of English still wine: fragrant, fresh and full of character without any unnecessary weight. Hedgerow blossom, white peach and lemon combine with a little extra texture from oak, making it particularly good with grilled fish or fresh cheeses.
About The Producer
Will Davenport has been an important voice in English organic winemaking since he planted his first vines in Kent in 1991. Working across vineyards in Kent and Sussex, he has built a reputation for distinctive, honestly made wines that rely on careful farming rather than cosmetic cellar intervention. His fruit is grown organically, with spontaneous fermentation and low sulphur use helping preserve the individuality of each site. Horsmonden Dry White has become one of England's most dependable and characterful still whites, blending aromatic early-ripening varieties with refreshing acidity and a subtle, food-friendly texture.
Winemaking Information
The 2023 Horsmonden Dry White blends Bacchus, Ortega, Faber, Siegerrebe and Huxelrebe from organically grown Kent vineyards. The wet September delayed harvesting, but improved weather allowed good ripeness before picking. The wine fermented naturally with indigenous yeasts, with around 10% matured in large oak foudres for texture rather than overt oak flavour. Bottled in June 2024, it is suitable for vegans; the producer records just 11 mg/L sulphites.
