Why You'll Love It
Crete is producing some of the most exciting white wines in Europe. This is a doozy, from a brilliant, small cult producer.
Assyrtiko has been recognised for a while as producing Greece's best, mineral, sleek whites. Here all the hallmarks of the variety are on show: lemony freshness and racy salinity. Vidiano, an indigenous Cretan variety, lends a supporting herbal character and ripe peach, apricot roundness. A few months in oak barrels adds just enough creaminess and spice without ever masking the fruit, creating a wine that's weighty yet refreshing.
This is a fantastic match for grilled sea bass, buttery seafood, pork with herbs or a good wedge of mature cheese. If you enjoy modern white Burgundy but fancy discovering something a little different, this is worth a try.

About The Producer
Diamantakis Winery is a family-owned estate in the hills of Heraklion, Crete, where brothers Andreas and Ioannis Diamantakis combine generations of agricultural experience with a modern approach to winemaking. Working sustainably across vineyards planted at altitude, the family champions both indigenous and international grape varieties, believing the island's diverse soils and cooling mountain influences can produce wines of remarkable freshness and elegance. Their Prinos range perfectly captures this philosophy - approachable, expressive wines that showcase a more contemporary side of Greek wine while remaining unmistakably Cretan.
Winemaking Information
Diamantopetra is made from two of Greece's finest white grapes, Assyrtiko and the indigenous Cretan variety Vidiano. Each variety is vinified separately in stainless steel before fermentation is completed in a combination of French (80%) and American (20%) oak barrels. The wine then spends around three months ageing on its fine lees, adding richness and texture while preserving the freshness and vibrant fruit that define this modern Cretan white.
