Why You'll Love It
A step up in depth and seriousness from Franco Mondo's everyday Barbera. Dark cherry, plum and spice come with richer texture, firm but polished structure and the acidity that gives great Barbera its lift. A particularly good match for slow-cooked beef, wild mushrooms or aged cheese.
About The Producer
Franco Mondo is a family estate in San Marzano Oliveto, among the rolling hills of Piedmont's Monferrato. Founded by Ernesto Mondo in 1945, it has passed through the generations to Franco and his son Valerio. Around eleven hectares of estate vineyards supply a range led by Barbera, alongside other local and international varieties. From bright everyday reds to serious single-vineyard Barbera, the family combines careful vineyard work with a clear understanding of its home territory.
Winemaking Information
100% Barbera from the estate's older Vigna del Salice vineyard in San Marzano Oliveto, planted in the 1980s on a south-east-facing hillside. The hand-harvested grapes undergo traditional red vinification with skin contact. The wine then matures for approximately eight months in French oak, followed by a further six months in bottle before release.
