Why You'll Love It
Barbera with extra depth from old vines and traditional oak. Ripe plum, black fruit and violet are joined by a touch of spice, while the grape's natural acidity keeps the generous palate lively. Ideal with rich pasta, salumi or roast meat.
About The Producer
Giuseppe Cortese is a benchmark family estate in Barbaresco, founded in 1971 when Giuseppe began bottling the Nebbiolo grown by generations of his family in the celebrated Rabajà vineyard. The cellar stands directly above Rabajà, with other parcels on the neighbouring Trifolera slopes. Pier Carlo Cortese oversees winemaking, favouring spontaneous fermentation, restrained extraction and large, seasoned Slavonian oak rather than conspicuous new wood. Gabriele represents the estate internationally and Tiziana leads hospitality. The result is precise, traditionally made Piedmont wine whose perfume, freshness and sense of place have earned a devoted following.
Winemaking Information
100% Barbera from the south- and south-west-facing one-hectare Morassina site near Barbaresco, with approximately 45-year-old vines on limestone-clay soils. Hand-picked; around 20 days' fermentation in stainless steel, followed by 18 months in 17hl Slavonian oak casks and six months in bottle. The 2022 wine is independently listed at 14% ABV.
