Why You'll Love It
This Dolcetto is a real charmer. Above any pretentious note I could write about this wine, it is really tasty. Graceful, floral and damn fruity with flavours of black cherries, violets and redcurrants. Freshness and fragrance is the joy here, but the palate lacks no oomph. Soft and velvety with plenty of staying power. A delight with charcuterie (ideally served slightly chilled), but has enough texture to accompany rich, tomato dishes. Me personally? I'll enjoy this all summer long whilst trying (and failing) to master the pizza oven.
About The Producer
The Cortese family has been protecting and enhancing the region of Barbaresco since 1971. Today, the winery is run by Giuseppe’s children, Pier Carlo, Tiziana, and son-in-law Gabriele, who look ahead with the determination that has always been the Cortese family’s most distinguishing feature. Attentive, rigorous care of the estate’s vineyards, strict selection, a traditional approach to vinification, and a gentle hand with modern techniques are the ingredients that define the unmistakable personality and unique flavours of Cortese’s wines.
Winemaking Information
The fruit comes from the Trifolera vineyard near Barbaresco, where 35-year-old vines grow on mineral-rich limestone and clay soils. The grapes are harvested by hand before fermenting in temperature-controlled stainless steel tanks. The wine remains in stainless steel throughout its élevage, with no oak influence, before spending around three months in bottle prior to release. The result is a wonderfully pure, fruit-driven Dolcetto that captures the freshness and charm of the variety.
