Why You'll Love It
A wonderfully accessible introduction to the Cortese approach to Nebbiolo. Grown in younger vineyards near the famous Rabajà hill, it gives red berries, rose petals and measured tannins, with more sophistication than its Langhe label suggests.
About The Producer
Giuseppe Cortese is a benchmark family estate in Barbaresco, founded in 1971 when Giuseppe began bottling the Nebbiolo grown by generations of his family in the celebrated Rabajà vineyard. The cellar stands directly above Rabajà, with other parcels on the neighbouring Trifolera slopes. Pier Carlo Cortese oversees winemaking, favouring spontaneous fermentation, restrained extraction and large, seasoned Slavonian oak rather than conspicuous new wood. Gabriele represents the estate internationally and Tiziana leads hospitality. The result is precise, traditionally made Piedmont wine whose perfume, freshness and sense of place have earned a devoted following.
Winemaking Information
100% Nebbiolo from approximately 1.5 hectares of younger Barbaresco vineyards at 200–330m, with limestone and clay soils. Hand harvested, fermented around 30 days in stainless steel and aged for 12 months in large 17–25hl Slavonian oak casks, then at least six months in bottle. A 2023 Falstaff listing records 14% ABV.
