About The Producer
Bodegas Perica has been part of Rioja Alta since 1912, based in the village of San Asensio. Still family-owned after more than a century, the estate now farms over 150 hectares of vineyards, giving the team unusually close control over fruit selection and vineyard management. Its holdings include the La Olagosa vineyard, which lends its name to the classic Rioja range, and the officially recognised Viñedos Singulares of Finca Santa Julita and Finca Valdelascarretas. These carefully defined parcels demonstrate the family's ambition beyond traditional ageing categories, with old-vine Tempranillo and Viura showing the individual character of Rioja Alta's soils and slopes. Perica combines the region's familiar fruit and oak traditions with modern precision and parcel-by-parcel winemaking. From generously priced everyday Rioja to serious single-vineyard releases, it is an estate with genuine depth.
Winemaking Information
100% Viura from Finca Valdelascarretas, a single vineyard planted in 1975 in Rioja Alta. Grapes are hand-picked into 15kg boxes, undergo cold pre-fermentation maceration and are pressed and settled for 24 hours. Fermentation takes place in French oak barrels, with six months on lees followed by an extended barrel-ageing period. The producer's general wine page specifies 15 months of further oak ageing and mentions bottling in August 2022, so that date and exact regimen must not be assumed to describe the 2021 vintage. The 2021 bottling is independently listed at 13.5% ABV.
