Why You'll Love It
Decadent, rich, serious white Burgundy. At a decade old, plenty of fresh green fruit remains on the nose, with interlacing savoury flavours of soy and marmite. Dense and full bodied, with a lovely contrasting salty acidity. Quite a joy, especially at this brilliant price point!
About The Producer
The Sorines estate is owned and run by the heirs of one of the oldest families in Santenay. The family estate was rebuilt in 1946 by Jean Sorine and was then taken over by his son Christian in 1990. Today Christian is joined by his wife Emma in the vineyards and winery. With limited vineyards available in Santenay the estate has grown and now also includes some Maranges. The Sorine's have chosen not to gain organic certification however in many areas they would qualify, the aim here being to make wines that are true to their place, and have minerality and purity.
Winemaking Information
En Charron comes from one of Santenay's finest white vineyard sites, where limestone-rich soils produce Chardonnays with remarkable tension and minerality. The grapes are harvested by hand before fermenting in French oak barrels with extended ageing on the fine lees. The oak is used with restraint, adding texture, subtle spice and complexity rather than dominating the wine. Nearly a decade of bottle age has allowed the fresh fruit, savoury notes and vibrant acidity to knit together beautifully, creating a mature white Burgundy that's drinking superbly today.
