Why You'll Love It
This is far more serious than everyday sparkling rosé. Mosel Pinot Noir brings red fruit and a delicate, spicy lift, while many years ageing on its lees gives lovely brioche complexity and a finely knit mousse. An excellent choice for a special dinner, especially with salmon or roast poultry.
About The Producer
Dr. Loosen has been in the same Mosel family for more than two centuries, but it was Ernst 'Erni' Loosen who transformed the estate's reputation after taking charge in 1988. Working with old, often ungrafted vines on the dramatic slate slopes around Bernkastel, Wehlen and Ürzig, he became one of the most influential champions of age-worthy German Riesling. His approach combines sensitive farming, careful fruit selection and increasingly patient cellar ageing. A small Pinot Noir parcel in the celebrated Ürziger Würzgarten vineyard inspired the estate to make this rare traditional-method Rosé Sekt, a striking expression of the Mosel's capacity for serious sparkling wine.
Winemaking Information
100% Pinot Noir harvested by hand from a small parcel in the steep Ürziger Würzgarten vineyard, where weathered red volcanic rock and slate give distinctive spice. The 2015 was fermented by the traditional bottle method and aged extensively on lees before disgorgement; the producer's 2015 technical sheet states up to ten years. It confirms 12.5% ABV, 7.8 g/L residual sugar and 6.6 g/L total acidity, and identifies the wine as vegan.
