About The Producer
Settlement is a Marlborough wine project founded by Steve Planthaber, whose years at Cloudy Bay helped develop a meticulous approach to vineyard and cellar work. The team focuses on distinctive sites in the Southern Valleys, including the organically certified Settlement Vineyard in the Omaka Valley. The vineyard's sheltered slopes, clay-rich soils and low yields produce Pinot Noir with concentrated fruit, aromatic detail and a strong sense of place.
Winemaking Information
The 2021 fruit was hand-picked from the organically certified Settlement Vineyard in Marlborough's Omaka Valley. Around two-thirds of the fruit was fermented as whole bunches, with indigenous yeasts and hand-plunging, before maturation for approximately 15 months in French oak barriques, around 35% new. The wine was bottled without filtration. The published producer sheet lists 13% ABV for this release, although some retailer listings show 14%.
