About The Producer
Bodegas Amaren is the Cañas family's ambitious project in Samaniego, Rioja Alavesa, with winemaker Jon Cañas at its heart. He focuses on small parcels of mature vines, working with native yeasts and carefully judged oak to capture the character of the village's chalky soils. The wines put vineyard identity ahead of conventional Rioja ageing categories.
Winemaking Information
100% Tempranillo from very old vines, at least sixty years old, in small plots around Samaniego. The grapes are harvested by hand, sorted twice and fermented in French oak vats. After malolactic fermentation, the wine matures for fourteen months in French and American oak barrels, around half new, with concrete also used in the cellar.
