About The Producer
Stéphane Robert founded Domaine du Tunnel in 1994, starting with rented vines while still in his twenties. Together with his wife Sandrine, he has built one of the northern Rhône's most distinctive small estates, farming parcels in Cornas, Saint-Péray and Saint-Joseph. The name refers to the disused steam-train tunnel in Saint-Péray that he converted into a remarkable barrel cellar. Stéphane is admired for wines of concentrated fruit and exceptional finesse, with careful attention to the character of each parcel and restrained oak handling. His Saint-Péray shows how compelling the Rhône's white varieties can be.
Winemaking Information
Produced entirely from Roussanne grown in four Saint-Péray lieux-dits, including Barras, Grand Plantier, Combe and l'Arzalier. Hand-picked fruit is gently pressed and fermented using indigenous yeasts, with a combination of stainless steel and seasoned French oak used across releases. Lees ageing provides texture while preserving the grape's floral and stone-fruit character. The exact 2021 barrel proportion was not independently verified.
