Why You'll Love It
Fixin is worth exploring for structured, distinctly Burgundian Pinot Noir without the fame of nearby Gevrey. This combines generous cherry fruit with a little woodland spice and fine tannins. An excellent red for roast duck, mushrooms or pheasant.
About The Producer
Domaine Philippe Naddef is one of the most interesting emerging estates in the Côte de Nuits. Philippe began with 2.5 hectares of vines inherited from his grandfather in 1983, after gaining experience at Domaine Comte Georges de Vogüé. Based in Fixin, the family now farms more than six hectares across a wide range of Burgundy appellations. Since son Michel took over winemaking in 2014, the wines have become increasingly precise, combining fragrant fruit with fine structure and a real feel for each site. The vineyards are worked without herbicides or chemical fertilisers, and harvesting is carried out by hand. From characterful village wines to serious Gevrey-Chambertin premiers crus, this is a domaine worth following closely.
Winemaking Information
Pinot Noir from the Crais de Chêne site in Fixin, in the northern Côte de Nuits. The Naddef family picks its grapes by hand, sorts carefully and favours indigenous fermentation and measured extraction to preserve aromatic detail. The domaine raises its reds in French oak; the precise new-oak proportion and duration for this particular 2023 cuvée have not been independently confirmed.
