About The Producer
The Dönnhoff family has farmed vineyards around Oberhausen in Germany's Nahe valley for more than two centuries. Helmut Dönnhoff transformed the estate into one of Germany's benchmark Riesling producers, and his son Cornelius continues that exacting work today. Their holdings span some of the Nahe's most celebrated sites, including Hermannshöhle, Dellchen, Felsenberg and the volcanic slopes of Schlossböckelheim. Rather than imposing one uniform style, they allow the extraordinary variation in slate, sandstone and volcanic rock to speak through the fruit. Meticulous picking, gentle pressing and carefully judged use of stainless steel and traditional large oak casks give wines of purity, balance and remarkable longevity. From expressive village wines to some of Germany's greatest dry and sweet Rieslings, Dönnhoff is a defining name in the region.
Winemaking Information
The 2024 Spätlese comes from Niederhäuser Hermannshöhle, one of the Nahe's most celebrated Riesling vineyards, with slate and volcanic-influenced soils. Hand-picked grapes are gently pressed and the wine fermented and matured in stainless steel to protect its exceptionally fine fruit. The vintage has 8.5% ABV and approximately 65 g/L residual sugar, balanced by lively acidity. This is a naturally sweet, long-lived Spätlese, not a dry or merely off-dry Riesling.
