About The Producer
Founded by Jeffrey Grosset in 1981, Grosset has become one of Australia's most revered wineries and is widely regarded as the benchmark for Australian Riesling. Jeffrey was instrumental in campaigning for stricter labelling laws to ensure only true Riesling could be labelled as such, and he was one of the pioneers behind Australia's move to screwcap closures. Today, the estate farms all of its vineyards organically and biodynamically, producing wines that are celebrated around the world for their precision, longevity and expression of place. Polish Hill is the flagship wine and one of the country's most collectible dry Rieslings.
Winemaking Information
Polish Hill is sourced from Grosset's organically and biodynamically farmed single vineyard in the Polish Hill River sub-region of Clare Valley. The low-yielding vines grow on ancient shale and slate soils, producing intensely concentrated fruit with remarkable natural acidity. After hand harvesting, the grapes are gently pressed before a cool fermentation in stainless steel to preserve the purity of the fruit and the vineyard's unmistakable mineral character. There is no oak influence here, allowing the site to speak with exceptional clarity.
