Why You'll Love It
Haut Simard in Saint-Émilion has long been one of Bordeaux's best-kept secrets. All the elegance and charm of the appellation at an approachable price.
With over a decade of bottle age, this wine has softened beautifully. Black cherry, plum and cassis have evolved into notes of cedar, tobacco, leather and gentle spice, while the tannins have become velvety.
Perfect with roast lamb, beef Wellington, game or a mature hard cheese. If you enjoy traditional Bordeaux with a few years under its belt, you're on to a winner here.

About The Producer
Château Haut Simard belongs to the Vauthier family, best known as the owners of the legendary Château Ausone, one of Saint-Émilion's Premier Grand Cru Classé A estates. While Haut Simard sits firmly under the radar compared to its famous stablemate, it benefits from the same meticulous attention to detail and uncompromising approach to quality. Situated on clay-limestone soils just outside the medieval village of Saint-Émilion, the estate consistently produces wines that offer classic Right Bank character without the eye-watering price tag often associated with the appellation. For many Bordeaux lovers, it's one of the region's hidden gems.
Winemaking Information
The grapes are hand-harvested from clay-limestone vineyards on the outskirts of Saint-Émilion before undergoing careful sorting and fermentation in temperature-controlled concrete vats. Malolactic fermentation takes place in barrel, followed by around 12 months' ageing in approximately 50% new French oak. The result is a wine that combines the richness of Merlot with the freshness and perfume of Cabernet Franc, while allowing the vineyard's limestone character to shine through.
