This 100% Pinot Noir Champagne from the Côte des Bar is rich and supple on the palate with attractive notes of raspberry, cranberry and citrus oils. Three years ageing on the lees – and a further 12 months under cork – has contributed a creamy texture along with hints of honey and baked apple. Outstanding value.
Champagne Guy de Forez can be found in the beautiful village of Les Riceys, in the southern corner of the Côte des Bar, Barséquanais. The village has the largest terroir of Champagne in the region (866ha) and today the wines are in huge demand from the Grandes Marques houses for their impressive local Pinot Noir. The Wenner family have eleven hectares of vines almost entirely made up of Pinot Noir (97%) with small holdings of Meunier and Chardonnay too. All the vines are situated in close proximity to the winery, which is a huge advantage at harvest time. The rolling hillsides of kimmeridgian clay and limestone vineyards create wines of power, elegance and remarkable value. Guy de Forez avoids malolactic fermentation on all their wines to maximise freshness. The domaine has also pioneered sustainable practices in the region, was certified TERRA VITIS in 2012 and more recently HVE level 3. Francis is now handing over the management of the estate to his two sons, Sebastien and Vincent, and there is a definite feeling of dynamism and drive at the property.
