This is a phat, full-bodied crémant with beautiful yeasty, toasty, brioche aromas and a big creamy, rounded mouthfeel. There's a great, zesty acidity and loads of citrusy flavours which balance the richness on the palate. The finish is long and luxurious. Not so serious that it's too thought provoking, just a delicious bit of fun. We're into this in a big way.
Tucked between the foothills of the Alps and Burgundy, the Jura is France's most confidential wine producing region. This bottle fermented sparkler comes from the Jura's (maybe even France's) largest and oldest co-operative which are locally referred to as the Fruitières. The base of the wine is 100% Chardonnay, but a splash (approximately 2% of volume) of Vin Jaune (the regions famous yellow wine barrel aged under flor yeast for 7 years) is added immediately, prior to bottling (an inspired variation to typical dosage method), giving the with awesome complexity in both aroma and palate. Pour it in celebration or at the table - the ultimate match, predictably, for the Jura's renowned Comté cheese.
