Why You'll Love It
This is a Riesling of remarkable composure and detail. Layers of citrus, white peach and subtle stone fruit are underpinned by the cool, smoky minerality that is the hallmark of Hermannshöhle, while a finely judged acidity gives the wine shape and persistence rather than overt intensity. Powerful yet restrained, it pairs beautifully with lobster, turbot, scallops or simply prepared poultry, and has all the structure required to reward long-term cellaring.
About The Producer
The Dönnhoff family have been farming in Oberhausen, on the banks of the River Nahe, for generations, but it was Helmut Dönnhoff who transformed the estate into one of Germany’s great names from his first vintage in 1971. Today, his son Cornelius continues the family’s meticulous approach across some of the Nahe’s finest vineyards.
Dönnhoff’s Rieslings are celebrated for their remarkable purity, energy and sense of place. From the volcanic slopes of Kupfergrube to the slate and sandstone of Hermannshöhle, Brücke and Leistenberg, each vineyard has a distinct character, translated with extraordinary precision in the cellar. The result is a range of beautifully transparent Rieslings that we believe rank among the very finest wines Germany has to offer.

Winemaking Information
Produced from the iconic Niederhäuser Hermannshöhle, one of Germany's most celebrated Riesling vineyards, this Grosses Gewächs comes from vines up to 75 years old rooted in a steep south-facing slope of black-grey slate, volcanic porphyry and limestone. The grapes are harvested selectively by hand over several passes before gentle pressing and fermentation in traditional large oak casks. The wine matures for at least six months on its full lees, followed by a further period on fine lees, developing texture, complexity and exceptional longevity.
