This is a bit of a charmer. Montepulciano can be a bit ubiquitous, but this is intensely fruity with flavours of plum, tobacco and cedar. The palate is fresh, intense and spicy with a subtle clove warmth. Destined to be shared around a big table with Sunday dinner served family style.
In 1961, to help local farmers compete with the biggest wineries in Abruzzo, Don Vincenzo Pizzica formed a co-operative in the small village of Miglianico. Here in 1966, in the foothills of the Apennines, these farmers produced their first bottles.
Today they number 300 and collectively farm 500 hectares of prime Abruzzese vines, focusing as they have always done on the region’s signature grapes.
