Gianni Tessari Soave 2024

This was a total revelation when I first tried it. And it will be for you too. I've always thought of Soave wines as a bland, over industrialised, inexpensive plonk. But it is very clear that I should have known better. This is a beautifully weighted, soft and creamy wine with brilliantly bright flavours of white flowers, yellow plums and a whisper of sage. I can't remember when I last tasted a wine that oozed so much charm. If you're a lover of modern white Burgundy, you'll thank me when you try a bottle of this. Enjoy with grilled fish or light summer salads.

Born in Monforte d’Alpone in 1963, Gianni Tessari started working in the family vineyards at a very young age, going on to study oenology. With his brother he brought great success to the family winery, Cantine Tessari, including an astonishing 14 ‘Tre Bicchieri’ in the Gambero Rosso. In 2013, he left the family business to start on his own, and now has 55 hectares of vineyards from which he makes three Soaves, four red wines and two sparkling wines under the Durello label. As one would expect with his pedigree, the Soaves are impeccable, with the cru wines having immense power and minerality.
